The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) has released its 2025 Impact Report, revealing that it has unlocked $1 billion in financing to support India’s clean energy transition. This investment has had a significant impact, improving energy access for 49 million people, creating or supporting 2.2 million jobs, and reducing 166 million tons of carbon emissions. The Alliance has backed 26 renewable energy projects in India, including the country’s first commercial standalone utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and solarization initiatives in Rajasthan.

GEAPP’s efforts have also focused on driving decentralized renewable energy (DRE) solutions, such as the Decentralized Energy for Women’s Economic Employment (DEWEE) program in Uttar Pradesh. This program aims to enhance productivity and income for 10,000 women-led enterprises. The Alliance has also partnered with NITI Aayog and state governments to enable scalable energy transition roadmaps, mobilizing investments and tendering 16 GW of new renewable projects in Maharashtra.

The report highlights the success of public-private-philanthropy partnerships in transforming energy systems and driving sustainable growth. Globally, GEAPP has awarded $503 million in catalytic funding, unlocking $7.8 billion for 137 projects across over 30 countries. The Alliance’s CEO, Woochong Um, stated that the findings prove that collaboration between public, private, and philanthropic sectors can drive systemic change and deliver sustainable energy solutions.

Looking ahead, GEAPP will continue to support India’s renewable targets through programs like the Digital Utilities for Energy Transition (DUET). This initiative aims to enhance energy reliability for 300 million people, develop 10 GW of distributed renewable energy, build 10 GW of new generation, and establish 5 GW of BESS capacity. The Alliance’s efforts have been praised by the Director General of the International Solar Alliance, Ashish Khanna, who noted that clean energy is now about transforming lives, livelihoods, and futures. Overall, GEAPP’s 2025 Impact Report demonstrates the significant progress being made in India’s clean energy transition and the potential for public-private-philanthropy partnerships to drive sustainable growth and development.
