Sungrow, a leading energy solutions provider, has partnered with AGL Energy to power the Kerarbury almond farm in Griffith, New South Wales. The project aims to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and provide a stable, cost-effective, and sustainable energy supply to local farms. The farm is equipped with Sungrow’s state-of-the-art solutions, including the SG4950HV-MV PCS and PowerTitan Liquid-cooled energy storage system, integrated with over 10,000 solar panels. The total installed capacity of the project is 5.99 MW, generating approximately 14,000 MWh of clean electricity annually.
This initiative is expected to cut 7,500 metric tons of CO₂ emissions per year, significantly decreasing the agricultural sector’s dependence on traditional energy sources. The project achieves an estimated 83 percent renewable energy penetration rate, enabling farm operators to lower operational costs, stabilize energy supply, and increase profitability. The use of Sungrow’s advanced Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) technology has made this possible, highlighting the potential of agrivoltaics in transforming farming operations and ensuring long-term economic and environmental benefits.
The partnership between Sungrow and AGL Energy demonstrates the potential for collaboration between the energy and farming sectors to drive meaningful emissions reductions and improve energy reliability. Brendan Weinert, Head of Sustainable Business Energy Solutions at AGL Energy, emphasized the company’s commitment to supporting initiatives that bring together clean energy innovation and agricultural resilience. Joe Zhou, Country Director of Sungrow Australia, added that the project showcases how renewable energy can transform agriculture, enabling farmers to harness clean energy reliably and cost-effectively while contributing to a more sustainable future.
The Kerarbury almond farm project is a significant step towards reducing Australia’s reliance on fossil fuels, particularly in the agricultural sector. With agriculture playing a vital role in the country’s economy, rising energy costs and environmental concerns pose increasing challenges. This project highlights the potential for renewable energy to provide a stable and sustainable energy supply, reducing the sector’s carbon footprint and promoting long-term economic and environmental benefits. Sungrow’s commitment to advancing solar and storage technology ensures that diverse industries and communities have access to reliable, clean energy, driving a more sustainable future for regional communities.
