Foreship, a renowned ship design and engineering company, has successfully collaborated with Royal Caribbean on the $100 million amplification of Allure of the Seas. The project, which began in late 2023, involved a comprehensive overhaul of the ship, culminating in a recently completed drydock phase that concluded in April 2025. Foreship’s multidisciplinary team worked closely with Royal Caribbean to provide a range of services, including naval architecture, risk assessment, basic design work, piping and cabling engineering, and documentation for class and contractor coordination.
One of the key aspects of the project was the design of a new steel structure in the forward part of the ship to accommodate additional cabins. Foreship also undertook the structural design to support the installation of new water slides, including the Ultimate Abyss, a 10-storey dry slide featured on other Oasis-class ships. The installation of the Ultimate Abyss required careful planning and execution, as it involved a 100ft drop between decks 16 and 6, necessitating the addition of new pillars under Boardwalk on Deck 6 to support the additional load.
In addition to these visible modifications, Foreship was responsible for modifying the ship’s piping, electrical cabling, and other systems to support new attractions, such as whirlpools, fountains, and a remodeled pool deck. The company’s expertise and experience in ship design and engineering were instrumental in ensuring that the amplification project was completed to the highest standards, meeting Royal Caribbean’s ambitions for delivering exceptional holiday experiences.
According to Daniel Grönroos, Senior Project Manager at Foreship, the company has a long-standing relationship with Royal Caribbean, having worked together on numerous projects over the past decade. Grönroos expressed his delight at being able to add the amplification of Allure of the Seas to Foreship’s portfolio of Royal Caribbean projects, emphasizing the company’s commitment to providing planning, design, engineering, and project management services that enable Royal Caribbean to deliver phenomenal holidays. With the successful completion of the drydock phase, Allure of the Seas is now poised to offer an enhanced and exciting experience for its passengers, thanks to the collaborative efforts of Foreship and Royal Caribbean.
