Honda has unveiled its first electric bike, the E-VO, in China, developed in partnership with its local partner Guangzhou and branded under Wuyang-Honda. The E-VO is a cafe racer-style bike available in two variants, with 4.1kWh and 6.2kWh battery pack options. The smaller battery pack has a claimed range of 120km, while the larger pack offers a range of 170km. Both batteries power a motor that produces 15.3kW of peak power.
The E-VO features a unique 16/14-inch wheel setup with semi-slick tires and dual-channel ABS. The chassis is made of forged aluminum, and the bike has a kerb weight of 143kg for the smaller battery model and 156kg for the larger battery model. Charging times vary, with the smaller battery taking 1 hour 30 minutes to charge via a home charger, and the larger battery taking 2 hours 30 minutes.
The E-VO’s feature list is impressive, with three riding modes (Eco, Normal, and Sport), a 7-inch TFT display, and a secondary 7-inch TFT display that shows navigation, music, tire pressure, and battery information. The bike also comes with a front dashcam, and the larger battery model adds a rear dashcam. The E-VO is available in two colors, black and white.
Pricing for the E-VO starts at CNY 30,000 (approximately Rs 3.56 lakh) for the 4.1kWh battery variant and CNY 37,000 (approximately Rs 4.39 lakh) for the 6.2kWh variant. The E-VO is currently only available in China, and it is unlikely that Honda will launch it in India.
The launch of the E-VO marks Honda’s entry into the electric bike market in China, and the company’s partnership with Wuyang is expected to help it compete with other electric bike manufacturers in the region. With its unique design, impressive feature list, and competitive pricing, the E-VO is an attractive option for Chinese consumers looking for an electric bike. However, it remains to be seen whether Honda will expand its electric bike offerings to other markets, including India, in the future.
