Infinite Renewables, a Wales-based company, has launched one of the first wind turbine-powered electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in the UK. Located in Tafarnaubach, Tredegar, in south east Wales, this innovative charging station offers ultra-rapid charging powered directly by a wind turbine, providing a carbon-neutral solution for EV owners. The system is designed to operate independently of the grid, using renewable energy to charge vehicles when the turbine is generating power.
This project aligns with the Welsh Government’s decarbonisation targets and contributes to making EVs an even more sustainable option. The charging station offers discounted green energy, with costs lower than conventional ultra-rapid charging, which typically costs around 80p per kWh. By harnessing renewable energy, Infinite Renewables can offer lower charging costs to users, making EV ownership more attractive and environmentally friendly.
The turbine-powered charging station also helps to alleviate pressure on the grid network, which is becoming increasingly stressed. Additionally, it increases the revenue yield from the existing renewable energy asset and provides substantial savings to EV owners through discounted unit costs. Andrew Crossman, Director at Infinite Renewables, believes that this project marks the future of EV charging in the UK, offering a greener, cleaner, and more cost-effective solution.
Infinite Renewables is planning to develop more renewable energy-powered EV charging stations using a combination of wind and solar power. With over 10 years of experience in designing, developing, and managing renewable energy schemes, the company has built a portfolio of over 50MW of wind, solar, and storage projects across the UK and internationally. As the demand for EVs continues to grow, Infinite Renewables is poised to play a significant role in shaping the future of sustainable transportation. With its innovative approach to EV charging, the company is helping to reduce carbon emissions and promote a cleaner, more environmentally friendly transportation system.
