Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL) has secured a power purchase agreement (PPA) with NTPC Ltd to develop a 200 MW firm and dispatchable renewable energy (FDRE) project. The project, spread across multiple locations in India, aims to generate 1,300 million units (MUs) of electricity annually, mitigating over one million tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year. The project is set for completion within 24 months and will consist of solar, wind, and battery energy storage system (BESS) components to ensure a 4-hour peak power supply.
This project marks a significant milestone for TPREL, as it brings the company’s total renewable utility capacity to 10.9 GW. The 200 MW FDRE project will join 5.5 GW of operational renewable capacity, with 5.4 GW under various stages of implementation. When operational, the project will ensure a minimum of 90% availability during peak demand hours, making it an important contribution to the growing energy needs of distribution companies.
The project’s unique feature is its ability to provide firm and dispatchable power, which is essential for the grid. The inclusion of BESS ensures that the project can stabilize the grid and provide reliable power supply. TPREL has a strong track record of developing large-scale renewable energy projects, and this project is expected to further solidify its position as a leading player in the Indian renewable energy market.
