Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed authorities to operate Sahulat Bazaars on solar energy. The bazaars are convenience markets that provide food items to the underprivileged at low prices. The chief minister has called for the early completion of preparations to open 13 new Sahulat Bazaars in the province by August 13. She also directed district administrations to allocate land for the markets.
The chief minister highlighted that switching to solar energy will reduce electricity costs by 70 percent, which will benefit the people. A pilot project in Lahore’s Township area has already been completed, and the authorities have been directed to release over Rs690 million for the conversion of Sahulat Bazaars to solar energy.
Maryam Nawaz Sharif emphasized that the aim of establishing Sahulat Bazaars is to eliminate inflation, a vision inherited from her father, Muhammad Nawaz Sharif. She has also directed officials to remove obstacles in the establishment of Sahulat Bazaars in Jhelum, Muzaffargarh, and Narowal, and to complete the process of identifying land for the bazaars in Rahim Yar Khan, Bahawalnagar, Attock, and Murree as soon as possible.
The establishment of Sahulat Bazaars on solar energy is expected to provide benefits to the people, including reduced electricity costs, by making essential food items more affordable. The initiative is part of the government’s vision to eliminate inflation and provide relief to the underprivileged segments of society.
