The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) in India is urging air conditioner manufacturers to promote the adoption of 5-star-rated models as the country prepares for a potential record-breaking summer with high electricity demand. The government aims to reduce energy consumption and ensure grid stability by promoting energy-efficient cooling solutions. A study by BEE found that nearly 30% of installed air conditioners are over eight years old, consuming 40-50% more electricity than modern energy-efficient units. Replacing these old ACs with 5-star-rated models could result in 60% energy savings, reduced peak power demand, and a significant reduction in CO2 emissions.

To achieve this goal, BEE has called for an industry-led movement, urging manufacturers to collaborate on a nationwide awareness campaign, utilize digital marketing, and in-store promotions to educate consumers about the benefits of energy-efficient ACs. The initiative also includes partnering with brand ambassadors, leveraging social media, and encouraging e-commerce promotions to popularize 5-star modules, particularly in high electricity-consuming cities like Hyderabad. As Hyderabad is expected to experience rapid population growth, with a forecasted growth of 1.30 crores by 2031, making its energy-efficient ACs a priority for manufacturers and traders.

The goal is to reduce peak power demand, lower electricity bills for households and businesses, and mitigate climate change. By promoting energy-efficient cooling solutions, India can not only reduce its energy consumption but also contribute to global efforts to combat climate change. The BEE’s initiative aims to make India’s buildings more energy-efficient, reducing its reliance on fossil fuels, and creating a greener, more sustainable future.
