KarmSolar, a leading solar energy company, has partnered with Daltex, Egypt’s largest agribusiness, to expand the Farafra Solar Grid in the New Valley Governorate of Egypt. The collaboration will increase the solar grid’s capacity from 3.2MVA to 8.37MVA, a nearly threefold increase, and boost utilization rates from 35% to 75%. This expansion will provide electricity to around 64,000 acres of farmland and ultimately lead to a 100% solar dependency goal within the next five years.
The partnership has economic and environmental benefits, promoting sustainable practices and strengthening the agricultural sector by ensuring reliable energy access for irrigation and food production. KarmSolar’s CEO, Ahmed Zahran, emphasized the company’s commitment to sustainability, citing a goal of 100% solar dependency by 2028. The company’s portfolio of energy generation assets totals 42MW, with multiple projects, including a hybrid PV-diesel installation at Oasis, Wadi Sabara, and Marsa Alam.
This agreement aligns with Egypt’s renewable energy strategy, aiming to diversify energy sources and promote sustainable practices. The expansion of the Farafra Solar Grid is a critical step in achieving energy independence, particularly for sectors reliant on intense energy use, such as agriculture. Continuous improvements to the solar grid and collaborations among leading companies will lead to wider adoption of solar solutions in the agribusiness sector, expanding energy distribution capabilities and paving the way for rural electrification and inclusive energy practices and infrastructure development in the region. This strategic partnership is expected to have significant implications for Egypt’s economy, aligning with global trends towards sustainability and renewable energy.
