The Andhra Pradesh State Energy Conservation Mission (APSECM) has launched an initiative to establish energy clubs in over 1,000 schools across the state, with the support of the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE). The goal of these clubs is to raise awareness among students about energy efficiency and conservation, with the aim of extending this knowledge to their families and communities. The clubs will engage in various activities such as promoting energy-saving technologies, renewable energy, and environmental awareness, as well as organizing model-making competitions and role-play skit competitions to address energy wastage and promote behavioral change.
The energy clubs will be run by a team consisting of the school’s principal, vice principal, faculty staff, and student representatives from each class. The clubs will be instrumental in fostering a culture of energy efficiency among students, contributing to a more sustainable future for Andhra Pradesh.
The initiative aligns with the national rollout of Mission LiFE, a program led by the BEE to promote climate-conscious economies and sustainable growth. The program, supported by the ministries of Power and Environment and Climate Change, aims to create an ecosystem for sustainable living, with a focus on mindful consumption and a circular economy. The implementation of Mission LiFE is urgent, particularly in the face of rising water scarcity, pollution, and increasing energy demand.
The initiative also aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 12, which promotes lifestyles that are in harmony with available resources. The success of this initiative relies on the cooperation of state governments, ministries, and educational institutions working together to achieve the goal of energy efficiency and sustainability.
