The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) held its first council meeting following the Delhi Assembly elections, focusing on key initiatives to improve civic life in the city. The council announced plans to adopt 100% solar energy by 2026, with a matching subsidy offered to residents and commercial establishments to install solar panels. This initiative aims to make NDMC self-sustainable and reduce dependence on non-renewable energy sources.

The council also agreed to provide 9,000 new water connections to 34 JJ (jute and small-scale industries) clusters in the next six months, benefiting around 47,000 residents. This move is part of NDMC’s broader efforts to improve urban services and quality of life in the city.

In addition, the council launched an initiative to clean up streetlights, which began as a pilot project in Khan Market and has now been expanded to five more locations. The council emphasized that agencies responsible for cleaning operations will face strict action if they fail to meet their contractual obligations.

The council also formed a committee to identify areas of improvement in sanitation and ensure better execution of services. To reduce the burden of high power bills on residents, NDMC plans to procure electricity at lower costs.

The council’s decisions aim to make a positive impact on the lives of Delhi’s residents, from providing clean energy and water to improving sanitation and living conditions. The initiatives demonstrate the council’s commitment to making NDMC a more sustainable, efficient, and livable city.
