Karnataka, India has exceeded its energy conservation target of 744 million kWh ahead of schedule. The state has conserved over 800 million units of energy through efficient measures, setting sector-specific targets, according to K P Rudrappaiah, Managing Director of KREDL. The agency is responsible for implementing the energy conservation and efficiency policy. Rudrappaiah credited the success to the leadership of Energy Minister K J George and the state’s efforts to develop innovative energy resources. Karnataka is also at the forefront of clean energy production and has made significant progress in formulating and implementing its energy conservation and efficiency policy.

Rudrappaiah emphasized the importance of preparing an annual action plan and energy conservation report, stating that this is crucial for the state’s energy goals. The World Resources Institute India (WRI) is serving as a think tank in this process. The Second Stakeholder Workshop on implementing the state’s Energy Conservation and Energy Efficiency Policy 2022-27 was inaugurated, where Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Limited, the Bureau of Energy Efficiency, and WRI India engaged key stakeholders to discuss and develop comprehensive annual action plans.

The meeting aimed to foster an inclusive environment for stakeholders to contribute to the policy’s implementation. By working together, the state and stakeholders aim to make further progress in energy conservation and efficiency. The achievement demonstrates the state’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and meeting its energy goals.
