The Union government has launched a nationwide initiative to shape energy-efficient cooling solutions, with Andhra Pradesh playing a key role. The goal is to engage the public in identifying solutions that reduce electricity consumption, lower carbon emissions, and mitigate the effects of climate change. Air conditioning alone accounts for nearly 10% of India’s total electricity consumption, with inefficient appliances contributing to power grid stress and carbon emissions.

The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) is leading the initiative, collecting vital insights and data to shape policies and technological advancements in the cooling sector. The survey is now live and accessible until March 25 at https://www.mygov.in/mygov-survey/shape-future-energy-efficient-cooling. Citizens are encouraged to participate and provide their input, which can be completed in just a few minutes.

Andhra Pradesh’s vast potential in energy efficiency makes it a critical state in this initiative. The state’s designated agencies are actively promoting and facilitating public participation in the survey. According to BEE, replacing outdated air conditioners with 5-star-rated models can improve efficiency by up to 60%, reducing overall power consumption and household electricity bills.

The survey is a significant step towards meeting India’s Net-Zero commitments under the Paris Agreement. Sustainable cooling solutions can reduce India’s annual electricity consumption by over 10 billion kWh and cut CO₂ emissions by 7.66 million tonnes. The initiative aligns with the vision of Union Power Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and is a reinforcement of the government’s commitment to promoting sustainable cooling practices, enhancing energy efficiency, and combating climate change.
