Turkey is playing a significant role in Ukraine’s energy security, accounting for 8% of the country’s renewable energy production. Turkish investments in the energy sector total around $600 million, and once these projects are complete, Turkish companies will supply over 10% of Ukraine’s renewable energy. Additionally, Turkey is a leading supplier of equipment and materials for the energy sector, such as transformers and cables.
The Zhytomyr region has signed a memorandum with a Turkish company to build a wind farm, which will enhance the region’s energy capacity by an additional 100-200 MW of wind generation. Turkish investors have already gained experience in the Ukrainian renewable energy sector, making it possible for them to scale their businesses quickly and effectively.
Last year, Turkish Atlas Global Energy announced plans to build new wind power capacity in the Zhytomyr region. The region’s increased energy capacity will be a significant step forward in reducing Ukraine’s reliance on fossil fuels and promoting sustainable energy production. The cooperation between Turkey and Ukraine in the energy sector has the potential to be a game-changer in the region, providing a cleaner and more reliable source of energy for the population.
The involvement of Turkish companies in Ukraine’s energy sector is not new, as they have been investing in the sector for several years. The president of the Turkish-Ukrainian Business Association (TUİD), Burak Pehlivan, notes that Turkish companies have been working in the sector since 2007 and have now become a key player. The continued cooperation between Turkey and Ukraine in the energy sector is expected to lead to further growth and development, benefiting both countries and the region.
