The Green Schools Awards 2025 recognized Indian schools that have consistently implemented sustainable practices and reduced their environmental impact. The awards honored institutions that have maintained a “Green School” ranking for five consecutive years, including Delhi Public School, Ludhiana, and Kendriya Vidyalaya Baikunthpur, among others.

In addition to the overall award, several schools were recognized for their outstanding performance in specific categories, such as energy efficiency, waste management, and sustainable eating habits. For example, Kendriya Vidyalaya, NTPC Shaktinagar, was awarded the Air Action Award, while Delhi Public School, Pune, received the Good Food Award.

The Green Schools Programme (GSP) Audit, which is conducted annually, provides schools with an opportunity to assess their environmental impact and implement sustainable practices. The 2024-25 audit results show significant progress towards sustainability among Indian schools, with 87% of schools not owning or using vehicles, 93% banning packaged food, and 71% adopting energy-efficient lighting.

However, the audit also highlighted areas for improvement, including the continued use of diesel vehicles and waste burning by 16% of schools. Despite these challenges, the Green Schools Programme has made a significant impact, with over 15,000 schools participating and implementing sustainable practices.

The awards and audit results demonstrate the important role that schools can play in promoting environmental responsibility and sustainability. By integrating sustainability into the school curriculum, schools can empower young minds to think and act sustainably, shaping a generation of environmentally conscious citizens. The Green Schools Awards 2025 and the GSP Audit results provide a clear message: change is possible when young minds are educated and empowered to take action towards a more sustainable future.
