The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), under the Ministry of Power, Government of India, is urging state governments and state designated agencies (SDAs) to implement advanced energy efficiency measures to achieve Net Zero emissions by 2070. This initiative aims to promote energy efficiency, adopt renewable energy, and increase the use of electric power in various sectors to transform the transportation sector, improve energy availability, and reshape business models. Kerala has taken the lead in this initiative by adopting energy efficiency and renewable energy strategies to ensure environmental sustainability and economic development.

A meeting was held in Thiruvananthapuram to discuss the role of communication strategies in enhancing energy efficiency initiatives and addressing climate change. The meeting was attended by A Chandra Sekhara Reddy, Adviser for Southern States and Union Territories, BEE, Hari Kumar, Director of the Energy Management Centre (EMC) Kerala, and K.R. Jyothi Lal, Additional Chief Secretary of Kerala’s Power Department.

Kerala has committed to reducing its reliance on imported fuels, meeting increasing electricity demands, and improving environmental sustainability. The National Electricity Plan projects that energy efficiency measures could cut electricity demand by 12-15% by 2030. To achieve this goal, Kerala is hosting the International Energy Festival of Kerala (IEFK) 2025, set to take place from February 7-9, 2025, in Thiruvananthapuram. The event will bring together global energy experts, industry leaders, policymakers, and students to discuss innovative energy solutions, showcase energy efficiency technologies, and celebrate progress in energy conservation.

K.R. Jyothi Lal emphasized Kerala’s dedication to becoming a leader in energy efficiency and carbon neutrality and the IEFK 2025 as a vital platform for presenting energy efficiency programs and fostering investment. Milind Deora, Secretary of BEE, praised Kerala’s proactive role and the upcoming IEFK 2025 as a significant platform for presenting energy efficiency programs and fostering investment.
