The Deputy Commissioner of Srinagar, Dr. Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat, chaired a meeting to review the progress of the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSGMBY) in Srinagar district. The scheme aims to install solar rooftops in 6,370 households by March 2025. As of now, over 1,400 consumers have applied for the installation of rooftop solar plants. The DC emphasized the benefits of the scheme, including a 60% subsidy on solar power units, and urged KPDCL functionaries to generate awareness among the public about the scheme. He instructed them to create awareness material in local languages and send bulk SMSs to targeted consumers. The DC also directed PDD and J&K Bank officials to work together to raise awareness about the scheme and simplify access to easy loans for subscribers. He emphasized the need to prioritize households with power consumption up to 3 KW and to organize awareness camps at the ward and panchayat levels. The meeting aimed to increase the number of applicants and timely installations under the scheme.
