Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh, emphasized that “green sustainability” is no longer a distant ideal, but a necessity in the face of global challenges such as climate change, resource depletion, and environmental degradation. He urged governments, industries, and individuals to commit to sustainable practices, citing public participation as a key driver of policy direction. The Minister highlighted the connection between sustainability and public health, noting that environmental degradation can lead to health issues such as diabetes. He stressed the importance of preserving biodiversity and reducing pollution to ensure the health and well-being of India’s growing population. Dr. Singh emphasized that collaboration among stakeholders, including government, civil society, academia, and industry, is crucial for finding solutions that are both innovative and widely accepted. He also pointed out that when citizens take ownership of sustainability efforts, it creates pressure for systemic change, making policies more inclusive and effective.
