The Alliance Française and Ritu Kochhar collaborated to host a sustainable fashion event in Chandigarh, India. The event aimed to raise awareness about the environmental impact of fashion and promote sustainable alternatives. The highlight was a clothing swap and live upcycling workshop, which educated citizens on strengthening the upcycling economy, reducing their fashion footprint, and embracing circular fashion. The event emphasized the beauty of slow fashion, community-building, and giving old clothes a “second chance” through swapping and upcycling. Ritu’s initiative, “Rope With Me,” promotes the 3Rs of fashion: Reimagining, Recreating, and Reusing. Participants learned various craft techniques to give new life to their old garments. The event aimed to create a more sustainable future by reducing waste and promoting creative reuse. The Director of Alliance Française Chandigarh, Ophélie Belin, emphasized the event’s focus on eco-conscious choices, cultural connections, and promoting a circular economy. The event was free and open to all, making it accessible to the community.
