India Seeks to Expand Trade with EU through Liberalization of SME and Sustainable Food Industries

India is opening up its sustainable food systems and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) sectors as part of its trade negotiations with the European Union (EU). The Department of Commerce, in the Trade and Commerce Ministry, has revealed that nine rounds of negotiations have been held so far, covering 23 policy areas/chapters. The negotiations are aimed at finalizing a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between India and the EU, its largest trading partner. The FTA deal has been pending for over a decade, and its conclusion is expected to boost trade between the two regions. The agreement is expected to benefit both parties by increasing trade volumes, promoting economic growth, and creating new opportunities for businesses. The opening up of India’s sustainable food systems and SMEs sectors is expected to be a significant aspect of the deal, allowing for greater collaboration and investment in these areas.
