Ambuja Cement, a subsidiary of the Adani Group, has commissioned a 200 MW solar power project in Khavada, Gujarat, which will help the company save 70% of its current electricity costs. This project is part of the company’s “Green Energy Project” which aims to develop 1 GW of renewable energy sources, including solar and wind energy, and 376 MW of waste heat recovery systems. The company plans to increase its use of renewable energy from 19.1% in 2023 to 60% by 2030. Other cement companies, such as UltraTech Cement and Dalmia Cement, are also investing in renewable energy, with UltraTech Cement procuring an additional 7 MW of wind-solar hybrid power and Dalmia Cement procuring 6 MW of wind power. Credit rating agency ICRA predicts that green power will account for 40-42% of the total power mix of major cement companies in India by March 2025, up from 35% in March 2023.
