Archer Wind and TotalEnergies have partnered to develop a 3-MW floating wind pilot project, called Culzean, in the UK’s central North Sea. The project aims to demonstrate the viability of hybrid power generation on offshore facilities and test a new floating wind turbine design. Delmar Systems has been appointed to supply the mooring systems for the project, which will feature a modular, light semisubmersible floater hull designed by Ocergy. The design is designed for fast-track assembly and cost optimization. The pilot is expected to be fully operational by the end of next year and will be used to test the mooring systems and floater design for future floating offshore wind projects. The project is part of the Innovation and Targeted Oil & Gas (INTOG) leasing round, and its success will be a key step towards the commercialization of floating wind technology.
