Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has announced that India’s automobile industry is on track to become the world’s largest within the next five years. Citing the sector’s growth from Rs 7 lakh crore to Rs 22 lakh crore under his tenure, Gadkari highlighted the government’s strategy to reduce logistics costs to 9% within two years, a significant reduction from the current 16%. This would make India’s logistics costs competitive with those in China (8%) and the USA and Europe (12%). The minister also unveiled plans to reduce travel times between major cities, with trips like Delhi to Dehradun shrinking from nine to two hours by January 2025. Additionally, Gadkari emphasized the adoption of alternative fuels, such as bio-ethanol, and the recycling of organic waste into hydrogen, highlighting a commitment to sustainable and forward-thinking solutions.
