The Andhra Pradesh government has launched the AP Urjaveer Scheme, in collaboration with Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), to enhance energy efficiency and sustainability. The scheme will train 1,12,000 private electricians to promote and sell energy-efficient appliances such as LED bulbs, LED tube lights, BLDC ceiling fans, and air conditioners. The trained electricians will be known as “Urjaveers”. Their role will be crucial in educating the public about energy-efficient appliances and their benefits, thus encouraging the adoption of energy-saving technologies. The scheme aligns with other initiatives such as the National Efficient Cooking Programme (NECP) and the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) scheme, and aims to raise awareness about energy conservation and promote the use of advanced energy-saving technologies. The government expects a positive economic impact from the initiative, which is part of a broader vision for sustainable development and makes energy efficiency a standard practice in Andhra Pradesh.
