The federal government has announced a funding package of over $1 billion to support New Brunswick’s electricity demands and decarbonize its energy grid. The funding includes $1 billion for 670 MW of Indigenous-led wind projects, as well as support for other renewable energy initiatives. The federal government is also providing funding for the conversion of the Belledune Generating Station from coal-fired power to biomass, as well as for the development of small modular reactor (SMR) capacity at the Point Lepreau Nuclear Generation Station. Additionally, the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency is providing funding for engineering and planning studies to investigate the conversion of the Belledune Station. The funding package aims to support the growth of the province’s economy, ensure affordable and reliable energy, and make progress on clean energy commitments.
