The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has installed 308 electric vehicle charging stations across its jurisdiction, but the process has been slow due to poor coordination among stakeholders. Despite receiving authorization for 570 stations over the past three years, the project has been delayed by issues with electricity connections, meter installation, and opposition from the Public Works Department (PWD). MCD officials have held meetings with senior officials to address these issues, but progress has been slow. The PWD has objected to installing charging stations on wider roads maintained by them, citing that MCD owns the roads and does not need permission. Electricity connections have been established for nearly 95% of MCD applications, but the remaining cases are on hold due to document deficiencies or transformer capacity issues. The administration plans to expand the infrastructure to outer areas and is focusing on installing charging stations at closed dhalaos, surface parking areas, and roadside locations.
