Union Bank of India has added accessibility features to its Digital Rupee (e₹) application, a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) that allows for digital transactions. As the first Public Sector Bank (PSB) to do so, Union Bank is committed to promoting financial inclusion and innovation. The Digital Rupee, regulated by the Reserve Bank of India, enables wallet-based transactions and inter-operability with UPI QR codes. The newly added features include voice-over compatibility, gesture-based navigation, and platform compatibility, making it easier for visually challenged individuals to download and navigate the app. The app can be used on both iOS and Android devices. This move enables a broader customer base, including differently abled individuals, to participate in the digital economy. The CBDC aims to reduce costs associated with printing and managing physical currency and encourages a shift to digital transactions, supporting the government’s vision of a less-cash economy. With Union Bank leading the way in digital accessibility, the bank is redefining financial inclusion and innovation in India.
