The Financial Services Institutions Bureau (FSIB) has selected Binod Kumar as the preferred candidate for the role of Managing Director of Indian Bank, based in Chennai. Kumar is currently an Executive Director at Punjab National Bank and will succeed S L Jain, who is set to retire next month. The selection process involved 15 applicants, with interviews held on Sunday. The choice was made based on performance metrics, comprehensive experience, and existing selection criteria. Earlier, Asheesh Pandey was initially chosen for the role, but the selection process was reopened following concerns raised by the Reserve Bank of India. The ultimate decision on Kumar’s appointment will be made by the Cabinet’s appointments committee, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This development comes after the selection process was reopened in April following a setback in the initial selection.
