From November 18th, driving instructors in Guernsey will be required to have successfully completed an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check before putting forward students for practical tests. This is a safeguarding measure aimed at ensuring the welfare and safety of young drivers. According to the States of Guernsey, most instructors have already completed the check, and a reminder has been sent to those who have not. The measure is part of the Government Work Plan to comply with the Vienna Convention on Road Traffic. The States President, Deputy Lindsay de Sausmarez, emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety and well-being of young people learning to drive, stating that having DBS-checked instructors will provide peace of mind and assurance for parents.
