IndiGo, one of India’s largest low-cost carriers, has made its long-haul debut by launching direct flights to Manchester, the largest city in the north of England. The airline has operated its maiden flight from Delhi, the Indian capital, to Manchester, marking a significant milestone in its international expansion.
The inaugural flight, taking off from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, flew to Manchester’s Ringway Airport, marking a significant milestone in the airline’s long-haul journey. IndiGo’s Chairman, Rupa Madappa, was present at the launch ceremony and expressed his excitement about the new route, stating that it will provide more options for passengers traveling between the two cities.
The airline operates four direct flights a week, with the inaugural flight taking off at 2:15 AM (IST) from Delhi and arriving in Manchester at 7:40 AM (GMT) the same day. The flight has a total travel time of around 8 hours and 25 minutes. The return journey takes place on the same lines, with the flight taking off from Manchester at 12:50 PM (GMT) and arriving in Delhi at 2:15 AM (IST) the next day.
IndiGo’s entry into the long-haul market is seen as a significant development in the Indian aviation sector, with the airline looking to tap into the growing demand for international travel. The airline has been expanding its services rapidly, having already announced new routes to various destinations, including the Middle East and Europe. With this launch, it looks to tap into the growing demand for air travel from India to Europe, particularly from the UK.
The Manchester route is expected to be a popular choice for Indians, given the large Indian diaspora in the UK. Additionally, the route is likely to attract business travelers, students, and tourists, who are looking for direct and cost-effective travel options between the two cities. As one of the largest low-cost carriers in the world, IndiGo has built a reputation for its affordability, which is expected to be an advantage in the long-haul market as well.
In terms of in-flight services, IndiGo will offer a range of options, including a complimentary meal and select in-flight snacks, as well as a choice of entertainment options, including movies, music, and games. The airline has also ensured that the cabin crew is trained to provide a high level of service, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable journey for passengers.
The launch of the Manchester route marks an exciting chapter in IndiGo’s international expansion plans, with the airline looking to spread its wings and offer more options for passengers seeking affordable and convenient travel options.
