Air India, owned by the Tata Group, has ordered 34 trainer aircraft from Piper Aircraft and Diamond Aircraft to establish a pilot training school in Amravati, Maharashtra. The school, expected to open in the second half of 2025, will offer a full-time aircraft flying course and provide a direct pathway to Air India’s cockpit for successful trainees. This marks a significant shift in strategy for Indian carriers, which have traditionally relied on independent flight schools. The new school will enable Air India to control the supply of pilots and develop a long-term talent pipeline. The airline has also ordered 570 aircraft since its takeover by the Tata Group. The training school is expected to be South Asia’s largest Flying Training Organisation, playing a critical role in building the aviation infrastructure needed to support India’s growing aviation industry.
