Engine lessors, Team France 01 SAS and Sunbird France 02 SAS, took legal action against SpiceJet due to non-payment of contractual obligations after terminating their agreements. In January 2024, a court order forced SpiceJet to pay $4 million immediately to avoid grounding the aircraft engines. By May 2024, the unpaid amount had grown to $10.84 million, prompting the court to establish a plan for SpiceJet to pay its outstanding dues. As part of this plan, SpiceJet agreed to pay $4.8 million in monthly installments of $1.2 million until September 2024, as well as weekly rental fees for the engine. The court warned that any failure to comply with these terms would result in the grounding and return of the engines.
