International Airlines Group (IAG), owner of five airlines, including Aer Lingus and British Airways, has signed a 10-year agreement with Infinium to purchase sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). The deal concerns e-SAF, a power-to-liquid energy source that converts water, waste carbon dioxide, and renewable energy into fuel. IAG aims to reduce its emissions by 90% compared to traditional jet fuel. The company will also invest in new aircraft and fuel efficiency initiatives to achieve its goal of using 10% SAF by 2030. Infinium will supply the fuel, produced at its Project Roadrunner facility in Texas, to IAG’s five airlines. The deal is a significant step towards reducing the aviation industry’s reliance on fossil fuels and achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. The ZE-Aviation Alliance estimates that SAF could contribute around 65% of the reduction in emissions needed to reach net-zero.
