International Airlines Group (IAG) has announced a 10-year agreement with Infinium to purchase Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) produced from power-to-liquid technology. The e-SAF will be supplied to IAG’s five airlines, including Aer Lingus, British Airways, Iberia, LEVEL, and Vueling, starting in late 2026. The fuel is expected to reduce lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 90% compared to conventional jet fuel. The agreement is a significant step towards IAG’s goal of using 10% SAF by 2030. The e-SAF is a “drop-in” replacement for traditional fuel, requiring no changes to existing aircraft engine designs. IAG’s Group Sustainability Officer, Jonathon Counsell, emphasized the need for policy support to attract funds for SAF production and reduce the aviation industry’s reliance on fossil fuels.
