The Clarkson University Golden Knights men’s hockey team won their seventh consecutive game, defeating the Colgate University Raiders 5-3 in an ECAC Hockey matchup. The Golden Knights scored at least three goals in each of their previous six games, and this time, they put up three goals in the second period alone. The win secured a top-four spot in the ECAC Hockey playoffs and the accompanying first-round bye.
The game was won behind strong offensive play, with the Golden Knights scoring early and often. They opened the scoring just seven minutes into the game on a power-play goal, and then added an even-strength goal six minutes later. Colgate got back on the board on a power-play goal, but Clarkson took control of the game with three goals in the second period. Ayrton Martino, who became the first Golden Knight player since the 2017-18 season to score 20 goals, had a hand in three of the five goals, including a shorthanded tally near the end of the game.
The win improves Clarkson’s overall record to 20-9-3 and 14-5-1 in league play. They will host Quinnipiac and Princeton next weekend. The Golden Knights’ goalie, Ethan Langenegger, made 32 saves, while Colgate’s Andrew Takacs stopped 32 shots in the loss. The win marks the seventh consecutive game in which Clarkson has scored at least three goals, a streak that dates back to February 4.
