Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited (ABFRL) is facing a tax demand of Rs. 74.35 crore from the GST authorities due to disputes over the company’s input tax credit (ITC) claims. The latest demand from the Assistant Commissioner of Central GST in Chandigarh is for Rs. 2.46 crore, which is related to ITC claims made under the Integrated GST category instead of CGST and SGST categories. The discrepancy is due to an inter-head adjustment between the company’s yearly GST return (GSTR-9) and the GSTR-2A report. The GST officials have demanded a penalty of Rs. 1.27 crore and interest of Rs. 2.76 lakh. The company has stated its intention to appeal the decision. In another case, a demand of Rs. 1.89 crore has been made by the State Tax Officer of Jammu and Kashmir for the financial year 2018-19, related to discrepancies in the company’s GST returns and vendor returns.
