Patanjali Ayurved, co-founded by Baba Ramdev, is facing a trademark infringement lawsuit from Mangalam Organics Ltd. The Bombay High Court had previously imposed a fine of Rs 4.5 crores on Patanjali for violating an earlier order that restrained them from selling cone-shaped Mangalam camphor products. The court had noted that Patanjali had engaged in a “wilful and deliberate breach” of the order and had no intention of complying with it. Despite the court’s restraining order, Patanjali continued to sell the products, with a total of Rs 49,67,861 worth of products sold between July 2023 and June 2024. Even after admitting to selling these products, Patanjali continued to claim that they had stopped doing so. The Bombay High Court is now hearing the matter again, with a further hearing scheduled for November 27. Mangalam’s lawyer, Hiren Kamod, is representing the company, arguing that the court’s findings are correct and that Patanjali’s actions were “dishonest and deliberate”.
