Aditya Chakravarthi, a 46-year-old triathlete from Nerul, underwent surgery for a bilateral inguinal hernia, which affected his groin area. The conventional treatment for such hernias typically involves open surgery with a large incision, but Dr. Shalin Dubey and his team at Apollo Hospitals Navi Mumbai decided to use a minimally-invasive laparoscopic approach. This allowed them to repair the hernia using small incisions and a high-definition camera, reducing recovery time and allowing for a faster return to physical activity. After just 1.5 months post-surgery, Chakravarthi cycled 200 km and secured 2nd place in a competition, and is now running 40 km a week and cycling 300 km a month. The minimally invasive procedure also resulted in less noticeable scars, reduced the risk of post-surgical infections, and allowed for a guided rehabilitation program to promote healing and gradual reintroduction to physical activity.
