Dr. Pawan Goenka, a renowned figure in the Indian automotive industry, has been awarded the Padma Shri, India’s fourth-highest civilian honor, for his outstanding contributions to the sector. The announcement was made on Republic Day, recognizing individuals who have made significant achievements in various fields. Dr. Goenka’s association with Mahindra & Mahindra began in 1993, and over the years, he rose through the ranks to become the Managing Director of the company. Under his leadership, the company experienced remarkable growth, with revenues increasing 25-fold and profits rising 55-fold over two decades.

Dr. Goenka is a strong advocate for electric mobility and has played a pivotal role in steering the Indian automotive industry towards innovation and sustainability. His tenure at Mahindra & Mahindra was marked by a focus on research and development, leading to the company’s success in the SUV market and its position as the world’s largest tractor manufacturer. Dr. Goenka’s leadership has also seen the company make significant strides in electric vehicles, with Mahindra being one of the early movers in this space.

In addition to his role at Mahindra & Mahindra, Dr. Goenka has made significant contributions to India’s industrial and technological sectors. He has served as the Chairman of the Board of Governors at IIT Madras and currently chairs the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Center (IN-SPACe).
