BYD, a Chinese automaker, has launched a price blitz for its Seal electric car and hybrid Sealion 6 models in Australia. The BYD Seal’s price has been trimmed nearly $3800, making it more competitive against Tesla’s Model 3. The revised hybrid Sealion 6 is priced to take aim at popular vehicles such as GWM Haval H6, Hyundai Tucson, Kia Niro, and Toyota RAV4. The Seal electric car and Sealion 6 hybrid join BYD’s lineup in the Australian market.
The BYD Seal is equipped with a single electric motor that produces 180kW, providing a zero-emission drive experience. The new model is claimed to have an electric range of up to 500km.
Meanwhile, the BYD Sealion 6 is a plugin hybrid that pairs an electric motor with a traditional gasoline engine to produce 131kW, offering a best-of-both-worlds performance. The two models are said to offer greater value and quality than some of the existing competitors.
It is intriguing to see the impact of the price blitz of BYD price on the competitiveness of the industry in Australia and its potential popularity among car-buyers.
