Stellantis, the parent company of Fiat, has extended the production pause of its electric Fiat 500 city car until January 20, 2026, confirming earlier union expectations. The production halt, which began in early December, is due to low demand for electric vehicles in Europe. Additionally, the company has announced a longer halt in production for two small-volume Maserati sports car models, also manufactured in Mirafiori, until February 3, 2026. This comes as Stellantis presented a plan to the Italian government to revitalize its output in Italy, but its effects are not expected to be felt until 2026. According to the FIM-Cisl union, automotive output in Italy is expected to fall to below 500,000 vehicles this year, the lowest level since 1958. Overall, Stellantis’ European operations chief, Jean-Philippe Imparato, forecasts that its plans will not have an impact until 2026, which has raised concerns among trade unions and the Italian government.
