The electric vehicle market in India is growing, with the electric scooter segment being a crucial part of it. Indigenous brands Bajaj and Ola are leading the charge, with Bajaj CEO Rajiv Bajaj claiming that their Chetak electric scooter is now the largest-selling electric scooter in the country. He taunted Ola, the current market leader, saying “Ola Toh Ola Hai, But Chetak To Shola hai” (Ola is Ola, but Chetak is on fire). Bajaj has sold a significant number of Chetak scooters, thanks to its popularity and appeal. The EV scooter market is dominated by three companies – Ola Electric, TVS Motors, and Bajaj Auto, who collectively hold over 70% of the market. Ola Electric leads the pack with 24.5%, followed by TVS with 23.55%, and Bajaj Auto with 22.59%. The success of the Chetak scooter has been a significant contributor to Bajaj’s growth in the market.
Ola’s EV dreams are going up in smoke, while Chetak is sparking a revolution!
