Volkswagen Group of America is recalling approximately 4,616 2022-2023 Audi Q5 PHEV and 2022 Audi A7 PHEV vehicles due to a risk of overheating high-voltage batteries, which could lead to a fire. The issue was identified after several thermal events linked to high-voltage battery modules in plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV). Volkswagen will implement an interim and final remedy to address the issue. The interim measure is to not charge the vehicles until further notice, while the final remedy will be the installation of advanced diagnostic software to monitor the battery’s performance and alert drivers to any potential issues. The recall is expected to be completed by the second quarter of 2025. Owners will receive an interim letter by January 24, 2025, and a second notice once the final remedy is ready. They can contact Volkswagen Audi customer service or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for more information.
