The Indian motorcycle market has seen a significant decline in sales for the year-end period, with the 400cc segment being no exception. Royal Enfield, a leading brand in the 350cc classic bike portfolio, has faced competition from other manufacturers that offer 450cc and 600cc motorcycles. In November 2024, Triumph’s 400 lineup sold 2,240 units, accounting for 58.58% of the market, despite a 15.82% YoY decline and 44.07% MoM decline. Bajaj’s Pulsar 400 sold 582 units, a 55.98% MoM decline, while Harley-Davidson’s X440 sold 387 units, a 5.5X YoY decline. KTM’s 390 lineup sold 290 units, a 71.03% YoY and 43.47% MoM decline. Hero MotoCorp and Husqvarna’s 400cc motorcycles also saw significant declines. The total 400cc bike sales for Bajaj and Hero in November 2024 was 3,824 units, a 38.35% YoY and 56.42% MoM decline. The segment’s decline is common during the year-end period, and sales are expected to pick up in 2025.
