The Corvette Z06 has no equal among American cars on the track.

The 2024 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 has reportedly set a Nürburgring Nordschleife lap time of 7:10.51 seconds. This laps time is relatively disappointing for a car known for its impressive power and handling, and falls short of its expected potential of setting a sub-7 minute time. Despite the Corvette being the most powerful production car with a naturally aspirated V8, the combination of an 8th gear with long ratio holding it back is what limited its top speeds. Expert Christian Gebhardt suggests a shorter 5th gear ratio could yield a time under 7 minutes, but that didn’t transpire in official testing. The Dodge Viper ACR holds the top American sports car production lap record with a 7:01.3, demonstrating the challenge Porsche’s German engineering and experience present even for top contenders. For now, Corvette fans continue to eagerly wait for faster lap times that may put the brand neck and neck with Porsche once more
