China’s Ambassador to Hungary, Gong Tao, visited Szeged on Thursday to tour the Chinese company BYD’s newly-built factory. The largest building of the plant is a massive 800m long and 200m wide, covering 167,000 square meters. According to Mayor László Botka, construction is progressing smoothly, thanks to the expertise and thorough planning of all involved. Ambassador Gong Tao highlighted the importance of environmental protection and compliance with regulations, emphasizing the mutual benefits of China-Hungary relations and the “One Belt, One Road” initiative, which Hungary was the first EU member state to join. The ambassador announced that the first BYD cars will roll off the production line in Hungary in almost a year, in November 2025.
