BYD, a Chinese automaker, has announced its plans to expand its presence in the UK market. The company will introduce three new PHEV models, the DM-i, including a hatchback, saloon, and SUV, over the next 12 months. Additionally, the company will launch the Shark 6 pick-up in 2025, which is designed for off-road use and features a 430bhp plug-in hybrid powertrain. The BYD executive, Stella Li, emphasized the company’s focus on hybrid technology as a solution for those who are not yet ready for full-electric vehicles. The company will also introduce a new entry-level pure electric model, the Dolphin Mini, which will be priced above €20,000 (£16,600). BYD will also launch its luxury Yangwang brand in Europe by 2026, which will include the U8 and U9 models, as well as a third model that is still being defined. Yangwang made its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed and received a positive reception, leading BYD to decide to bring the brand to Europe.
