Bosch is a leading manufacturer of electrical and electronic systems for motorcycles, with a focus on improving safety. According to Geoff Liersch, director of the Two-Wheeler and Powersports division, the company introduces technologies that are useful to riders, rather than responding to regulatory requirements. One example is the Motorcycle Stability Control system, launched in 2013, which has become common despite not being legally required. Liersch believes that people voluntarily seek safety features like this because they work well and increase safety. As a result, the industry is reaching a point where mandatory legislation may not be necessary, and riders will simply buy safety features without being forced to. Bosch’s goal is to develop and spread good equipment, and while they would welcome mandatory adoption, they will continue to launch features and promote their use regardless of regulatory requirements.
