Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (Tata Power-DDL) has announced that the peak power demand in Delhi is expected to reach 9,000 megawatts (MW) by the end of June or early July 2025. To meet this expected peak load, the company has made arrangements for up to 2,850 MW in its operational area of North Delhi. Tata Power-DDL has stated that it has strengthened its distribution network to handle the projected demand and is taking steps to ensure reliable power supply during the upcoming summer months.
The company has also clarified recent supply disruptions in areas such as Kirari, Rohini, and Burari, citing scheduled maintenance shutdowns. These shutdowns were necessary to carry out planned maintenance activities, which were affected in November and December 2024 due to restrictions under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP).
To further improve its services, Tata Power-DDL has deployed mobile distribution transformers and 24×7 Quick Response Teams (QRTs), and has hired additional manpower for customer services and system restoration. The company has also rejected social media reports suggesting widespread outages as “inaccurate and misleading”.
Tata Power-DDL is a joint venture between Tata Power and the Government of Delhi, supplying power to around 9 million people in North Delhi. The company has reported a significant reduction in aggregate technical and commercial (AT&C) losses, from 53% in 2002 to 5.9% currently.
