Ambuja Cements, a company of the Adani Group, is making a significant impact in the fight against non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in Chandrapur, India, through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. The company’s program is focused onraising awareness about NCDs such as hypertension and diabetes, and promoting healthy lifestyles in rural communities.

The program, which has benefited over 20 villages and 11 health centers, uses a multi-faceted approach, including screenings, risk assessments, nutrition awareness, and fitness programs. The initiative also identifies Sakhis, or community health volunteers, and frontline health workers, who play a crucial role in creating lasting behavioral change.

One such success story is that of Vinod Thamke, a resident of Chandrapur, who was previously unaware of his high blood pressure risks. After attending a screening camp and receiving personalized counseling, he joined a walking group and adopted healthier eating habits, which has led to stable blood pressure and improved energy levels.

The program’s interventions, such as annual screenings, kitchen gardening, open-air gyms, and tobacco cessation initiatives, have helped identify high-risk individuals and connect them to healthcare services, ensuring continuous follow-ups and preventive care. By addressing both prevention and management of NCDs, Ambuja Cements’ CSR team is creating a sustainable health movement in rural Maharashtra. Through continued efforts in screening, early detection, and lifestyle interventions, the company is committed to fostering healthier communities and combating lifestyle diseases at the grassroots level.
